Bendigo was built on gold. With 37 lines of reefs stretching across the city from north to south, thousands of prospectors flocked to the valley to try their luck. Travel through Bendigo's golden past - visit the site that sparked the gold rush, walk through the remains of an open-cut mine from the 1850's, climb a poppet head, relax with coffee and cake overlooking the site of the 1850's Government Camp. Descend 61 metres underground into a real working mine and have a Cornish miner's lunch in the Crib Room of the Central Deborah Mine.
